Community Music, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer's 21st recording, Postcards. The album includes a mix of traditional and contemporary folk, swing and original music that has even Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band are raving. The instrumentation consists of an eclectic style of acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, steel drums, percussion, cittern, pennywhistle, udu, six-string banjo and accordion.
This duo's stellar harmony vocals have garnered them a total of five GRAMMY nominated family CDs. Smoothly tied together with their expert production skills, Postcards was recorded and mixed by the duo in their own studio in Kensington, MD. The facility's main console is a Yamaha 02R and for vocals, they primarily use a Neumann U87 for the pristine sound quality.
On Postcards, Cathy and Marcy created an arrangement to Hank Williams' "House of Gold" that revitalizes the country song by using the baritone guitar, mandolin and classic duo harmony. In "Hot Club" style, Marcy plays a rare Django Reinhardt waltz. Then, joined by Grace Griffith, as a trio they re-create the three-part harmony magic of the Boswell Sisters on the 1940's classic, "It's the Girl".
One song on the CD stands out. "Survivors of the Storm" was co-written with Tom Paxton and is a passionate anthem about survivors of sexual abuse. The liner notes educate us that one in four girls and one in five boys will be sexually assaulted by the time they are 18 years of age. The song was dedicated to Joanne Levin, founder of the Maryland Center for Assault Prevention, which Cathy and Marcy have supported since its inception.
Postcards are now available in finer music stores or at various web stores including amazon.com and www.cathymarcy.com.
