Management Approach

Major WPS projects develop through the use of custom software programs. These programs were custom developed for the unique requirements of Washington Professional Systems' Engineered Systems activities. The programs provide an integrated, action-oriented approach to the total project from estimating to Customer Completion Agreement. The programs integrate the diverse needs of the Audio Video discipline with the established needs of the construction industry including standard AIA forms and proven Construction Management procedures.

Each major project is initiated, administrated and executed through the use of well-defined action oriented procedures. Each project is assigned a project engineer, a project manager and systems administrator. A total of 17 overall project milestones including Engineering Submissions, O&M Preparation, Procurement Requirements, Miscellaneous Parts Definition, System Fabrication, Owner Training Plan and other key requirements become defined action items from the point of project initiation. Project specific, detailed action items are identified by way of customer correspondence as well as WPS in-house Project Management Meetings. Completion and progress of assigned action items are cataloged and monitored with respect to initial, secondary and anticipated completion dates.

Each WPS project is assigned a dedicated project number, which is key to all elements of project execution. Project numbering follows through all documentation, correspondence, procurement, inventory and accounting procedures. Procurement and Inventory management within WPS Engineered Systems projects are performed on a dedicated, per project basis. Material flow from procurement to warehousing is accomplished within the project domain. Cross ordering for multiple projects, combined project inventories and other administrative expedients are avoided and essentially not allowed within the defined project management system.

Key to the overall management plan for WPS Engineered Systems is the requirement that all projects must include a complete engineering shop drawing set provided in a timely manner. Each WPS project includes engineering milestones and specific documentation requirements regardless of contractual obligations. Complete, timely engineering preparation of complete project requirements, provide the foundation for the successful integration of the projects administrative, technical and fiscal goals.

Upon request, typical administrative and engineering documentation providing further detail to the above-defined methods can be provided.

Organizational Structure

The Engineered Systems Group of Washington Professional Systems was developed in December of 1989 with the intent to expand the company's distribution of Audio Video product lines into the construction and systems integration markets. Our definition for success in these markets is based upon an integrated Engineering and Administrative Project Management Plan. Overall responsibilities are separated into three distinct teams.

Administrative Management Team Leaders

As Operations Manager of the Delaware Valley Office, Mr. Hondros maintains overall responsibility for the successful completion of all systems projects. As leader of the Project Management Team, Mr. Hondros provides direct supervision of all project management activities. This includes all fabrication, in-house and out-sourced field management personnel and labor forces.

Project Managers

The project managers' responsibilities include in-house and field coordination of system installation activities, on-site customer support and ongoing communications with the owner. A project manager may be supported by field Foremen as required throughout the project.

Paul Rinaldi, Senior Project Manager
Mr. Rinaldi provides overall project related support to the engineering team as well as on going customer relations and support.

Personnel/Manpower

The following provides an approximate outline defining the current available WPS manpower:

  • Administrative (including payroll, receivables & payables): 5
  • Engineers: 6
  • Draftsmen: 4
  • Project Managers: 7
  • Site Foremen: 5
  • Engineering Technicians (including programmers): 5

All work performed by WPS subcontractors will remain the complete responsibility of Washington Professional Systems including: general conditions, insurance, payment and other contractual obligations.

Washington Professional Systems has had significant prime contracting success on large-scale construction projects utilizing both union and non-union trades. Although WPS does not maintain any specific union affiliations, our ability to successfully accomplish systems implementation while maintaining harmony among all trades is recognized and understood throughout the general construction trades.

Certain engineering and production requirements may be accomplished through either Washington Professional Systems Wheaton, Maryland facilities or our Mt. Laurel, New Jersey facilities. Project management and on-site labor personnel will be staged at the WPS facility nearest the project site.

Project Management and Technical Support
During the on-site installation, as necessary, WPS maintains a minimum of one qualified project manager or site Forman at the project site. The assigned WPS Project Manager is available to address the needs and concerns of the owner's personnel at any time throughout the project and project warranty duration. Although 48-hour notice would be preferred, a minimum 24-hour response to a meeting request from project personnel will be fulfilled when appropriate or necessary.

All WPS project managers, engineers, technicians and other technical support personnel assigned to any project will, at a minimum, be available within 24 hours notice by the owner or designated representatives.
